Your sustainable shopping guide

@ La Tribeau

Every year, thousands of brands take part in the much-anticipated Black Friday, selling products at a discounted price that will most likely be used for a few months and then thrown away shortly after. At La Tribeau, we would like to set an example and educate you on the environmental effects of this day. So we are here to tell you how to be a more sustainable customer, not only during days like these, but in general.

Educate yourself
In a world full of fast fashion, it's easier to just buy whatever catches your eye. But doing your research on which brands partake in a more ethical and sustainable way of producing and selling makes all the difference. Luckily it's much easier to find brands like these than it once was, as they are often transparant about this. So try and learn a bit more about sustainability and brands that focus on this. It will make more of a difference than you think.

Being willing to pay more
Paying more may sound less exciting, which we understand. But remember that, in doing so, you're paying for the fashion industry being a greener space. Something we will all benefit from in the future.

Invest in trans-seasonal clothing
We often work with summer and winter clothing, but what if you bought items that could be used all year round? After all, layering is key. Having a variety of basics in your closet makes it possible for you to enjoy your clothes without the need to be buying more each season.

Buy pre-owned clothing
Clothing waste is a serious issue. At present, many items are worn only seven to ten times before being tossed. Buying pre-owned clothing will be a much more sustainable choice when you're shopping. Also, next time you decide to throw things away, think about selling or donating them first. Vinted and Vestaire Collective are great platforms for selling and there's a lot of organizations than are willing to offer your used clothes to others, sometimes even less fortunate than you are.

Choose pick-up, not delivery
Picking up your order in store is a much greener choice than having your order delivered at your doorstep. Get some movement in and grab that bike, or work towards those 10k steps a day.
